CARVER OF THE MONTH

Bob White

*************

I became a wood carver while working with the Boy Scouts.  We had boys who were interested in earning the Merit Badge Working with them, I was soon bitten by the wood carving bug.  I began to carve Birds and other things. One day I was walking through the woods with another adult scouter.  We saw a piece of cedar that had been cut to clear a trail. In fun I asked my friend if he saw the Cardinal in that piece of cedar.  He said, "no, where do you see it?" I said well, "it is down in the wood."  After some further looking he said  "Where?"  I said you have to remove all the wood that don't look like a Cardinal  to see it."  At that point he said "you rascal!"

Family and friends began to ask me to carve things for them and I found it very enjoyable and rewarding.  It is even more  rewarding to belong to a group like we have the Falls Cities Wood Carvers.
